enditnow

It was hard to avoid the bombshell report out of Pennsylvania, where investigators discovered that more than 50 Catholic priests had sexually abused hundreds of children over forty years.

Bishops in the U.S. have paid out $4,000,000,000 since 1950 in order to settle claims with victims. This came on the heels of Willow Creek and other Protestant churches limping through similar scandals.

This Sabbath is the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s special advocacy Sabbath to bring awareness to abuse and violence in churches. It’s called enditnow. We recognize that abuse is prevalent in Christian homes, where (predominantly) men appeal to biblical texts about “submission” and “sparing the rod” to justify violence.

It’s been called a “silent epidemic” in America as the #ChurchToo movement allowed victims to share their stories.

Roughly 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men will undergo abuse by their partner.

The Peoria Seventh-day Adventist Church is a safe place for victims. Please call the pastor or elders if you are being abused.

If you are not comfortable doing that, please call the Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-SAFE. Jesus sets us free. Please don’t believe anyone who would use Him into a tool of oppression.
